During a time when there seems to be something new to think about and worry about on a daily, sometimes hourly, basis… its important to remember that it is possible to have peace even in the greatest storm.
I have found myself exhausted over the last few months. I realised I’m so tired from holding the pain and the burden that I see in the world today. Injustice, riots, COVID, and the innocent being hurt in all of those situations…. Its been painful, and even hopeless, with the thought that I cant do anything about any of it. And I am sure many of us feel the same way.
My sister posted a very encouraging message about peace on her blog.
The good thing is that I know somebody who CAN do something about it. He’s the one who created each of us and who is more heartbroken over the brokenness in the world than any of us could ever be. He is the Prince of Peace and who tells the wind and waves to be calm… and they listen. He comforts us when we are hurting.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.1 Cor 1:3-5
PEACE is not the absence of conflict. The PEACE that Christ offers us, and calls us to, is the Shalom peace which means wholeness. God wants to restore what has been broken in the world, but also in each of us as individuals. This is the heart of the Gospel! Jesus came to heal what was broken in the world and give us a way to have friendship with God!
As I see the brokenness and pain in the world, played out over the news and in day to day life, I realize more and more, that the peace and justice people try to get in their own strength can never truly fix what’s been broken. What the world needs is Shalom peace… the peace and wholeness and healing that only comes from Jesus.
In that place we find joy and strength no matter how big the storm around us may seem. And all we have to do is ask the Lord for it!
